Nutrition breaks - Please note we are a balanced day school therefore we have two nutrition breaks throughout the day. The first is at 10am and the 2nd is at 12:50 pm. You may consider labelling containers with the numbers 1 & 2 to help your child know what to eat when. This has proven helpful to students no matter their age (JK to gr.6) as their tendency is to eat a lot during the 1st Nutrition Break and then have very little for the 2nd. For the first month, parents may consider packing extra food for their child. Our policy is to eat your healthy items first, leave treats for last and to keep all uneaten food in lunch bags to take home. This allows parents to see what has been eaten and what hasn't. Please label all containers in lunch bags. The cubbie area is a shared space and many containers look alike. Labelling them helps educators make sure lost containers are returned to the appropriate household. The office is no longer giving out spoons or forks to students therefore please be sure that your child has the appropriate utensils needed in their lunch bag. If parents have any concerns about their child's eating habits at school, please write a note in their Communication book to bring it to our attention.
Indoor and outdoor shoes - We foster independence in this area. Please be sure that your child is able to put both their indoor shoes and outdoor shoes on independently and is able to identify both pair of shoes. Velcro is preferred as it proves to be more independent than laces.
Toys from home: With an early start and first day jitters, we understand how a special toy can sometimes ease the transition out the door to school but please be advised that we will ask your child to keep their toy from home in their backpack. This is simply to ensure that it stays a special toy that they can enjoy at home and doesn't get lost in the classroom.
