We look forward to seeing you next week. Please read through to see what is happening.
Monday - Jump Rope envelopes are due. Last day to hand them in.
Tuesday - Open House - 8:15am-9:15am - Come play with us! Seriously, that's what we do in Kindergarten. Come see our classrooms and have some fun with your Kinder and their educators. There will be coffee in the grand hall for parents as well. ** If you can not join us, please be sure to have a chat with your Kinder so that they are not waiting for you to show up. For some, there are tears when they see other parents/family members coming to visit with their classmates. The struggle is real! Please warn them if you can not come.**
Tuesday - Jump Rope for Heart - 10:50am-12:50pm - Whole school event. All Kinders will participate in this whole school event. They will be put in groups with the students from grades 1-6 and then rotate through a variety of stations where they will do different exercises and activities. There will be the ever popular banana snack station as well. Be sure to pack some extra snacks in your child's lunch on Tuesday as they are sure to be hungry bears by designated lunch time.
Thursday - HAPSAZART - 5pm-6:30pm
Hilson's yearly art show. Come see the displays for each class - Kinder to grade 6. The artwork is impressive!
Friday - Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast - 7:45am-8:30am
Our yearly event to celebrate the contributions our volunteers have made to our school. We couldn't do it alone so please join us in celebrating the time you've taken to support your child and their educators this year. Invitations went home in Note Totes on Friday.
HELP US Fill our community volunteers' buckets!
The Kinder Team is putting together some appreciation bags for our community volunteers and we need your HELP! Please write a note or thank-you card to one, two or all our community volunteers with your child. Ask them about each of our volunteers and see what they they have to say about them. Record their comments on a note or card addressed to them & send them in to school with your Kinder. We will then place them in appreciation bags for our volunteers. Please no monetary gifts or purchased gifts - JUST heartfelt notes and cute/funny comments/quotes from your child.
Here's a bit of information about our community volunteers to give you an idea of what they do & to help your Kinder think of something to say about them.
Mrs. H - Our Kinder lunch monitor as well as as our right hand woman, what doesn't she help the Kinder team and Kinder students with? She helps us with EVERYTHING!! Everything from getting ready for outdoor play to keeping the classroom clean, running craft centres, setting up dramatic centres to reading stories in the reading centre to giving cuddles, Mrs. H does it all!
Mrs. Pryce - Our community volunteer extraordinaire! Mrs. Pryce volunteers her time 3 days a week and loves making crafts with our Kinders. She helps them cut and create. She patiently helps them cut on their own, adjusting their technique and assists them in choosing the right scissors depending on which hand they use. She also helps the Kinder team keep their crafts and art supplies clean and organized. In addition, she helps in the cubbies with all those zippers! Did we mention she bakes cookies for our Kinders? Homemade and allergen free!
Mrs. Gillian - Our Ottawa Reads volunteer who reads to Kinder A on Wednesday mornings & Kinder B on Thursday mornings. She brings her own special collection of children's books to the school with her, sets them up in the hallway and spends one on one time time reading to our Kinders.
Ms. Miriam - Joins Kinder A once a week to help out. She engages in centres helping children with whatever they are working on. Helps at tidy up time, lunch time and cubbie time.
Shelby - She's our behind the scenes volunteer in Kinder A. She started as a co-op student last year and enjoyed her time at Hilson so much she chose to continue to come in once a week during her first year of university. She sharpens our pencils, checks to see if our markers work, sorts through art work and stuffs Note Totes. She also precuts shapes for craft projects and makes sure our puzzles have all their pieces.
As you can see, it really does take a village! Please consider taking some time to write a note/card to these amazing volunteers! They make our Kinder program that much richer and they absolutely adore your children. Help us show them how much we appreciate their time and effort.
