Hilson is happy to welcome Katy Harrison to the team as our new school librarian. Both Kinder classes will be visiting the library on Mondays. Kinder B visits from 11:50am-12:20pm and Kinder A visits from 12:20pm-12:50pm. Please ensure that library books are cared for at home and returned every week. Students can only take out a new book if they have returned their previous book. For some, the struggle is real when they are informed that they can not take out a book. There are tears. Please send books to school EVERY MONDAY. Library books that are damaged or lost are subject to a fee. Fees are dependent on what is lost or how damaged.
School Photos
School photo proofs were sent home last week on Wednesday. Please read and review your package for ordering and purchasing instructions. Photos can be ordered online or by sending your order back to the school. Families that wish to have retakes are to clearly communicate this by sending their photo proof envelope back to the school with RETAKE written on the envelope. Retakes will take place on Thurs. Nov. 2nd. Retake requests and photo orders are due this Wed. Oct.18th.
Winter is coming
Fall weather continues to be un peu méli-mélo. Cool mornings, followed by sunny and warm afternoons or winter jacket days followed by tee-shirt days. Either or, the cold weather is inevitable in Ottawa. With cold weather comes the need for self-help skills. Self-help skills are the ability to do things independently like put on your jacket, know how to pull your sleeves right side out, zip up/button up your coat, put on your boots, hat, neckwarmer, mitts, identify your own boots, hat, neckwarmer and mitts. The more your child can do on their own, the more confident they feel and the faster they get outside or inside the classroom to play. Please practice these skills at home. If shopping for new fall and winter outerwear, have your child practice in store to ensure that they will be successful with the new purchase. As educators, we will teach these skills to your child by showing them strategies and talking them through the steps. Often, this is not the ''help'' they were asking for. Keep in mind the cubbie area is a space shared by 50 children and often only has 2 adults assisting during dress up time. Patience is a virtue & independence is happiness are our mantras during cubbie time.
P.S. It is never too early to practice putting on snowsuits :0) For real. Also - LABEL EVERYTHING.
