Nepean High School's drama class will be putting on their production Scooby Doo this Wednesday, Nov.8th at 11:45am. Both Kinder classes will attend. This is always a popular Hilson event that students enjoy. Be sure to ask about it Wednesday to hear your Kinder retell their experience.
Initial Observations - Kindergarten Communication of Learning
This year marks the first year that Kindergarten students will be receiving documentation during 3 points in the school year. This week marks the first point with the Initial Observations document going home on Thursday, Nov.9th. The Initial Observations document is the Kindergarten version of the Progress Report that students gr.1-6 receive. It is a brief documentation on your child's progress from Sept. to the end of October. Look out for it in Note Totes this Thursday. Once you have read over it, please be sure to sign off and write any of your own comments on the parent page and send it back to school in the envelope provided. Homeroom teams will be contacting parents for parent-teacher interviews shortly thereafter. Interviews are scheduled on a needs basis and will take place Nov.23rd & 24th. If you would like to meet with your child's teachers and they have not requested to meet with you, please indicate this on the parent page of the Initial Observations document.
Parents looking to learn more about Kindergarten documentation and reporting can read more here: http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/parents/kindergarten_report.html
Honouring Remembrance Day at Hilson
Student will be honouring Remembrance Day with a whole school assembly on Friday, Nov.10th at 10:50am. Both Kindergarten classes will be attending the assembly. They will also commemorate the day by making wreaths in class and choosing 2 wreath bearers to represent their class and lay the wreath at the ceremony.
We share everything in Kindergarten! Even germs!
There is A LOT of coughing and yellow-green snotty noses in both Kindergarten classes. We have been reviewing proper hygiene and preventive strategies in class such as:
1) Hand washing - always before eating & after blowing/wiping your nose
2) Covering your mouth with the inside of your elbow when you cough
3) Wiping/Blowing noses with a tissue & disposing of tissues in the garbage
Please review and reinforce these tips at home.
If your child is ill, please keep them home, calling the office to notify the school of their absence. If your child stays home due to the flu, please detail that in your message.
**COLD** weather week
The forecast looks much colder this week with highs ranging from 3-12 degrees. Please dress your child with a hat, mitts/gloves, neckwarmer and warm jacket. Some may even want to start sending their children to school wearing boots. Splash pants or lined pants are also good for keeping legs warm. Keep in mind that with no snow, snow pants risk getting ripped in the sand or on the pavement. As always - LABEL EVERYTHING & teach your child to put these items on themselves.
ALSO NOTE: The cubbie area is a shared space between 52 children & 4 educators. There is not enough space for your child to store boots or extra outdoor shoes or splash pants just in case they need them. All outerwear should be what what you expect your child to wear for outdoor play that day.
